 Fungi for beginners workshop: An all day event that includes a 2-3 hour foray and practical ID excercises combined with a powerpoint presentation on, what fungi are, where they grow, how they grow, important identification charteristics and a slide show of different, important fungi families, illustrated throughout by the authors own photographs of fungi in situ.

i first went on a tour with andy four years ago in the new forest. have been every year since and taken friends each time. andy is a goldmine of knowledge. it can be a bit nerve wracking identifying edible mushrooms but andy gives solid advic and show you all the 'bad guys' so you steer clear. he is eternally patient as the group run back and forth to him often with the same species of mushroom each!!! he identifies it, gives you the latin name, lets you know if it is edible and usually has an anecdote about it.

you pretty quickly build up the confidence to identify on your own.

the walks i have been on have been in really lovely bits of woodland.

come rain or shine, i make this an annual event (and boy was it raining this year!). can recommend it to people of all ages - smallish kids through to grannies. andy knows the places togo, the mushrooms you find and balances his knowledge with our natural curiousity.

since my first walk, i think that on every other walk, someone from a previous walk has been there. that should be recommendation enough.
